NEET Question Patterns for OC-09
Pattern 1 — Non-Reducing Sugar Identification (Almost Every Year)
Classic question: "Which of the following is a non-reducing sugar?" Answer: Sucrose Variations: "Why is sucrose non-reducing?" / "Sucrose is non-reducing because..."
Key answer elements: Both C1 (glucose) and C2 (fructose) are involved in the alpha-1,2 glycosidic bond → no free anomeric carbon → cannot ring-open → cannot reduce Tollens'/Fehling's.
Pattern 2 — Vitamin-Disease Association (Every Year)
Direct recall questions. Format:
- "Which vitamin deficiency causes [disease]?"
- "Match vitamin to deficiency disease"
- "Which of the following is fat-soluble AND causes [disease]?"
High-yield pairs to memorise verbatim:
- A → Night blindness / xerophthalmia
- B1 → Beriberi
- B3 → Pellagra
- B12 → Pernicious anaemia
- C → Scurvy
- D → Rickets/osteomalacia
- K → Delayed clotting
Pattern 3 — DNA Base Pair Hydrogen Bonds
"How many H-bonds in G-C?" → 3 "Which DNA sample has higher Tm — 30% GC or 70% GC?" → 70% GC
Pattern 4 — Protein Structure Level
"Which structural feature is NOT disrupted by denaturation?" → Primary (peptide bonds) "Which bond holds alpha-helix?" → Hydrogen bonds (intramolecular) "Which forces stabilise tertiary structure?" → Disulfide, hydrophobic, ionic, H-bonds
Pattern 5 — Polysaccharide Linkages
"Which polysaccharide has beta-1,4 linkage?" → Cellulose "Which polysaccharide cannot be digested by humans?" → Cellulose "Starch vs glycogen branching" → Glycogen more branched (every 8-12 units)
