The tangent at any point P on the hyperbola bisects the angle between the focal radii SP and S'P (specifically, the external angle for the nearer focus). A ray directed toward one focus, if it reflects off the hyperbola, appears to come from the other focus. This is used in hyperbolic mirror design (Cassegrain telescopes). The normal bisects the supplementary angle between the focal radii.
