CN = number of nearest neighbours touching a given atom. SC: 6 (along edges). BCC: 8 (body centre touches all 8 corners). FCC: 12 (each face atom touches 4 in-plane, 4 above, 4 below). HCP: also 12 (same as FCC — both are close-packed). Higher CN means more efficient packing.
