CV = (sigma/x-bar)*100%. It's a dimensionless ratio that allows comparison of variability between datasets with different units or different magnitudes of mean. Lower CV = more consistent/less variable. Example: if group A has mean 50, SD 10 (CV=20%) and group B has mean 100, SD 15 (CV=15%), then B is more consistent despite having a larger SD.
