Part of JME-06 — Circular Motion & Centripetal Force

Centripetal Force Does Zero Work

by Notetube Official65 words6 views

In UCM, the centripetal force is always perpendicular to the velocity (displacement direction).

Work = F * ds * cos(90) = 0

Consequence: Centripetal force cannot change the speed of the body — it only changes the direction. KE remains constant in UCM.

In non-uniform circular motion, the tangential component of force does work and changes the speed. The centripetal component still does no work.
